Newspapers and Magazine Coverage for You and Your Product
The reason companies are in business is to makes sales and grow profits. Nothing new so far! But if you want to sell, sell, sell, you need to first PR , PR , PR ! PR is a cost-effective way to give your products the national or local exposure that it deserves.
An absolutely terrific way of getting public relations is by using print. Many people think that by just writing a press release they will get published in print. Newspapers and magazines are picky and if they are not interested in your press release OR topic OR the way it is presented, then you won't get published in their pages. Marsha , CEO of Event Management Service Inc, a national PR firm says " There are other ways to get in print aside from the traditional press release. " Here Marsha will reveal the some helpful ways to get newspapers and magazines to publish your work !
1. Write a 'Tips' or 'How To' Article. " One of the easiest ways to get free PR in print ", says Marsha . " Offer lots of valuable advice and make sure it's written well enough for a publication to run it without having to make any edits. Lots of newspapers and magazines have a pretty small staff and desperately need content. "
" For example, if you're a mortgage broker write an article with 10 tips about getting the best mortgage available", adds Marsha . Keep every useful tip under 3 sentences, you don't want to be so long winded. Why? Newspapers and magazine love tips that are concise as they can easily reprint them as a side bar to a feature article. .
Not that confident with your writing skills? Marsha says, " If writing isn't one of your talents - hire a professional writer to write your article in the same journalistic style used in newspapers and magazines." Any articles that you get published will add to your expert status, so include useful bio information. Marsha adds, "Lots of newspapers and magazine will add boastful info just to make sure they can use your article. " 2. Author an Opinion Letter Marsha says, "Write about a controversial topic and send it on to the Editor of newspapers around the country. . Don't forget to put your credentials at the bottom of the letter so you get the recognition of being a published expert."
3. Create Photo Opportunities Every publication out there are on the lookout for great photos to publish in their titles. " Locally, create a special event - a fundraiser, an art show, a local or national contest", says Marsha . " Don't forget to invite the press! Don't worry if they blow you off, you can still send them through any photos you took. Just make sure to do it while it can still be considered a hot news story. "
4. Recycle Your Print Coverage Marsha says, "Anytime you receive a newspaper or magazine placement, make sure to send a reprint to a local publication with a pitch and new angle. " Get your daily reprints to nationals. Send articles in trade publications to editors anywhere. Create a blog and post your articles on it. " Get the most mileage as possible out of every story!" says Marsha .
